I found this video very inspiring. you may ask why, and i will try to explain. first of all, the man walking is unstoppable. he’s not invincible, but he is determined to press on. He never stops to reconsider or to count the cost. He walks on. Even though people pass him by and even hurt him, he is resolute. He knows who he is and he waits until the right time for him to reveal this. He doesn’t even take the easy way out and take help from the guys in the car, because he is sure of who he is and what he needs to do. In short, this man is the epitome of self-acceptance and being secure in his own identity.

The War of Art
August 20, 2008I have just recently read The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, and it was very inspiring. I now find myself with no excuse to delay destiny any longer, and why would I want one. From today onward I begin the epic war against resistance. I will be consistent in my work and I will be a professional because that’s what the work demands and deserves. God is waiting with giddy anticipation for us to embrace the unique design and purpose hard-wired into each of us, and for my part I don’t want to deny him or myself that joy any more! That’s the philosophical declaration. how about the practical? I am now keeping an invention journal where i come up with an idea for an invention every evening, but I can’t look at any of the ideas for a month. (thank you Kimberly for that fantastic discipline to develop creativity) because I am so subtle and sneaky at finding ways of not working as a creative innovative inventor, but know i have a tangible exercise to at least start engaging my place in the procession.
Power washing meditation
August 19, 2008I have been power washing the past few days and i have found the exercise quite meditative. the slow steady movement is relaxing and invites me to enjoy the present plus the instant gratification of washing away the muck that collects in all the grooves and pits over time. Any activity has the potential to become meditative it is more of an internal disposition than an external proposition. God will consistently meet us where we are open to meeting Him.
I don’t know what to say really
July 29, 2008I watched Batman on an imax screen in knoxville, TN last night. I’ve seen it three times now and each viewing has only caused me to think more deeply about justice. While the idea of Batman has always inspired me it has also caused me to question what my obligation to justice really is. I know I can’t fix everything, and i am sure there is nothing i can truly control, but there is an engagement of justice from a place of humility as opposed to power that I believe is the duty of every human being. It is our duty to stand against injustice in all of its forms. To do this though, we have to define injustice don’t we? My working definition is “something that prevents people the possibility of realizing their potential.” This definition is broad enough to include even the injustices we do to ourselves. Now, some of you may be thinking “who are we to decide what another person’s full potential is?” and you’re right. We can’t. but we sure as hell no when someone is being prevented from it, even if down the road that oppression is redeemed that doesn’t make it necessary or right. If you don’t believe me, tell me you don’t know it’s wrong the next time you see someone getting bullied.
Now, I am not suggesting we should fight everyone elses battles for them, but sometimes people need to be fought for until they can stand on their own and face their own battles. It is the same with societies. If the government can not cope with the injustice then someone or some group needs to step in until the government can function on it’s own in regards to justice. Ideally this group should be the citizens who are affected, but often these people are living in fear and don’t realize the power they have when acting as a single entity. Perhaps then, there should be a group that operates in these situations on behalf of the people. With the purpose of inspiring people out of apathy. Apathy is often a result of being overwhelmed, and when people can see concrete ways to take action and a tangible cause to fight for they often do. These guardians, or whatever name you want to give them, must operate out of duty and humility and not be motivated by power. sounds good here but that’s a damn near impossible thing to insure in practice.
Maybe we will see some such group, but it is foolish to wait. we can fight against injustice, not because it gives us power, but because it is right to do. there is no need to run across rooftops to fight injustice. Fight the injustice in yourself first and out of humility stand against the injustices done by others.
One last note: when I say fight the injustice in yourself, I do not mean ignore it or try to deny it’s existence. I mean bring i to the very forefront of your attention and with God stand ready to fight!
My life so far…
June 19, 2008This isn’t really a biographical post. It’s more just a catch-up. This year has been very transformative. I have started to understand more of who i am and who i was meant to be. last weekend I realized the importance of connecting with people in my same stage-of-life. Until now i have looked for that connection with people who are farther ahead in life. I am in Harrisonburg, VA right now and I will write a more coherent post this evening
